CM on pre-poll inauguration spree in State

SHILLONG: Be it distribution of yarns to farmers or opening a police station, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma is in the forefront to make his presence felt ahead of the Assembly polls due in the early part of 2018.
For more than 10 days, the chief minister was on an inauguration spree, laying foundation stone and attending functions, especially in Garo Hills.
However, sources have pointed out that while deputy commissioners could have carried out the inauguration of the blocks and civil sub divisions as also other schemes, the Home Minister or senior police officials could have done the job of ribbon cutting for new police stations.
The latest in the series of foundation stones laid by the chief minister was for the organic tea factory of a co-operative society in Umsning, Ri Bhoi, on Wednesday.
Prior to this on May 9, the chief minister deliberated on a new delivery model for Agri-Horti and Livestock Mission in Tura. The programme was also attended by his wife Dikkanchi D. Shira, who is the Chairperson of Meghalaya Resources and Employment Generation Council.
A day before on May 8, the chief minister inaugurated Hallidayganj police station in West Garo Hills. A galaxy of political leaders, Speaker A.T Mondal, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Zenith Sangma, Forest and
Environment Minister Clement Marak, local MLA Ashahel D. Shira and former minister Abdus Saleh, among others, were also present.
Another task carried out by the chief minister on May 6 was to distribute yarns for weavers under Betasing C&RD Block in South West Garo Hills.
On May 5, Sangma launched ‘My Village Model Village’ scheme, also in South West Garo Hills.
On May 4, he inaugurated Bajengdoba C&RD block in North Garo Hills and earlier on April 24, Raksamgre Civil Sub-Division under West Garo Hills amid jubilation and much fanfare.
