SHILLONG: There is a call to set up the Mawlai Block at Mawtawar. In a statement, Mawlai MDC PT Sawkmie MDC said he had discussed in details the setting up of the community and rural development block at Mawlai with Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Saturday. According to Sawkmie, the government is right in deciding to set up the new block based on population, area, villages and focus on development in rural areas.
Sawkmie said that the people of Mawlai, the FKJGP, HYC, Mawlai town durbar and others are firm that the block should be at Mawlai within the area of Mawtawar and not in any other constituency.
