SHILLONG: Food safety officers conducted search at a retail shop on Keating Road following a complaint that it was selling poor quality water.
Assistant Commissioner of food safety D.B.S Mukhim and officer Nathaniel Lyngwi, along with Sadar police, visited the shop named ‘Patanjali’, owned by S.S Agarwal, on Saturday and found three 20-litre water containers which are sold at Rs 100 each. It was alleged that the water was filled and sealed at his residence on Bomfyle Road, Laitumkhrah. The complaint was filed by head of Bomfyle Road Keith Kharshiing.
The food safety officers found that Agarwal does not have a licence,  which is in violation of the Section 31 (1) of the Food Safety Act that dealt with ‘licensing and registration of food business’.
The officers also found that Agarwal sold food items beyond expiry dates.
