SHILLONG: The four rebel UDP MDCs have sent a letter to the high command with an appeal to review its decision to withdraw its support to the People’s Democratic Forum (PDF) led by KHADC chief executive member P.N Syiem.
The four UDP MDCs are Donkupar Sumer and Albinus Lyngdoh, who are executive members of the KHADC, Teinwell Dkhar, parliamentary party leader of UDP in the KHADC, and Equator Nongrang.
The UDP central executive committee decided to withdraw support to the P.N Syiem-led coalition on April 17 after allegations of misappropriation of Council funds surfaced.
When contacted, UDP working president Bindo Lanong said, “We will consult the matter at the central executive committee meeting.”
Two Council members of UDP, H.S Shylla and Rona Khymdeit, have supported the executive committee’s decision and will be in the opposition in the KHADC.
Meanwhile, talking about the 2018 Assembly polls, he said, “We will try for all (60 seats)… What we want is people should change their mindset and bring about change, which is necessary.”
Pointing out that the Congress has ruled Meghalaya for 35 out of the 45 years of its formation, Lanong said, “Development is poor and people are ready for change.”
