SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills police are waiting for forensic reports and legal opinions in a few cases related to the trafficking and rape of a 14-year-old girl.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on Monday, East Khasi Hills SP Davis Marak said investigation in all the cases is almost over but filing of charge-sheets is being delayed because the police are awaiting the reports and opinions.
Earlier, three charge-sheets were filed in connection with the 11 cases registered in East Khasi Hills District following a series of FIRs filed by the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR). The minor trafficking and rape case involves some of the big names, like Mawhati MLA Julius Dorphang who is in prison now.
Dorphang is one among the 19 accused who were arrested in the past few months.
The sex racket came to light after an employee of a guest house owned by the family of Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh was arrested for trafficking the girl.
