Chamarajanagara, May 30 (UNI) A weary female elephant died of intestinal ulcers in Bandipur National Park after it had failed to respond to the treatments.
Forest officials said two days back the 30-year-old elephant had taken ill and was unable to consume fodder and water in the Bandipur forest reserve. The elephant is said to have been unable to eat due to ulcers in the stomach.
Tamed elephants were summoned to rescue the ailing elephant over the last three days. Vet Doctor Nagaraju provided glucose, sugarcane, jaggery and some nutritious food to revive the condition of the fragile elephant lacking energy. Though unable to walk, the elephant responded to treatment for a brief period but died yesterday.
ACF Anthony Mariyappa of Bandipur Sub-Division and ACF K Paramesh of Hediyala Division visited the spot. Officials conducted a post- mortem before its burial. UNI
