TIRUNELVELI (TN): Rebuffing the remarks of Former President A P J Abdul Kalam that the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) is safe and protected, the People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE), which is spearheading the ongoing peoples’ stir against the nuclear plant, vowed to continue its struggle till the plant was permanently closed by the Centre.

“We will not accept his views on Koodankulam nuclear Plant”, M Pushparayan, an activist of PMANE told UNI here Sunday evening. He said, “though we initially planned not to hold talks with Dr Kalam, a votary of nuclear energy, but later we had decided to seek his opinion.

“But, he had not met us. He came here to meet his supporters. He spoke about the welfare of future generations. If he is really worried about the future generation, he should have at least met the children of this part and allay their fears”, he said. He had not even given any appeal to the people to withdraw the agitation. We suspect that his today’s visit to KKNPP is a prelude to the visit of 15-member expert Committee formed by the Centre, he added. (UNI)
