SHILLONG: The HYC Ranikor circle on Monday condemned the kidnapping of Ricky Marwein from Umsur village of South West Khasi Hills at Nongjri area.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, HYC Ranikor circle, vice president, Ialam Rngaid said “We condemned the kidnapping of Ricky Marwein. It is not the first instance of kidnapping here in the district as Dinar Syiemlieh, Dajied Kynshai Syiemlieh were also kidnapped previously.”
Reportedly, Dinar from Borsora, was abducted and rescued last year, while Dajied from Nongjri-Umsur, who was kidnapped this year is still in Bangladesh even after being rescued from the kidnappers.
The pressure group will hold a public meeting on July 22 at Nongjri in order to discuss on the frequent kidnappings cases.
“We don’t know who kidnapped him but we suspect that the miscreants are from Bangladesh as our place comprises of mix inhabitants – Nepalis, Koch, Garo, Hajong and others,” he added.
The organisation demanded that anti-dacoity camp should be set up in Nongjri to prevent infiltration of Bangladeshis.
The HYC also demanded that the BSNL should start the connection services as the availability of mobile connection can counteract the cases of abduction by calling for help using phones.
Serving a two-week deadline to the government owned Telecom Company to start the connection in the area, Rnagid said, “A mobile tower is already in place. The BSNL should come up with the connection services or we will agitate.”
The South West Khasi Hills police are co-ordinating with their Bangladeshi counterpart to rescue the abducted man.
