SHILLONG: The CSWO has expressed concern over the frequent political and bureaucratic interference in transfers of officials in various departments, especially when there is a chance of corruption being checked.
In a statement to the media on Sunday, CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said the pressure group has been getting feedback, as reported in the media, that ‘political interference’ was there in the sudden transfer of A. Nikhla from the post of MD Meghalaya Transport Corporation.
CSWO opposed the sudden transfer of the MD and added that the organisation also came to know that Nikhla was transferred from the Forest Department as she was objecting to irregularities there too.
According to CSWO, in a system of governance run by rules and procedures, whims and fancies of a few corrupt in the government should not be officially recognised and approved as highly illegal.
“Those who try to correct the system are getting the boot and kicked around. This cannot be legalised in a State Government run by the rule of law and CSWO will find out more on the sudden transfer and not allow such practices,” the statement said.
The organisation said there are those who are corrupt and convicted, but are allowed to remain in their posts for years and even after retirement there are those who are able to be in high positions with the help of a few corrupt in the government, which deters the chances of job opportunities for many unemployed youth and also stalls the promotions of deserving officials.
“The practice of sudden transfer when time is not due and accommodating retired officials are strongly opposed and the Chief Secretary of the State being the guardian of the Government should have known and corrected this bad precedent,” Kharshiing said.
The CSWO said it will back good officials dedicated to their jobs and will see that the Government works by the rule of law and does not exploit and put officials under fear from speaking the truth.
