SHILLONG: Tura MP Conrad K Sangma has again requested the Roads and Surface Transport Ministry to repair the road connecting Agia in Assam and Garobada.
In his second letter to Minister Nitin Gadkari on the issue, the NPP president said the road is the lifeline of over 2 lakh people and needs immediate attention.
Sangma had written the first letter on July 21 last year.
The road, which falls in the MP’s constituency, has been neglected by “the Centre as well as the State” and the condition has worsened, he said in the letter.
“People are forced to take a longer route and they have to take NH-52 after crossing two districts. This makes travelling expensive and time consuming,” Sangma pointed out.
During the monsoon, the area gets nearly marooned as there are no proper roads and what is remaining gets inundated.
People of Tikrikilla, Phulbari, Singmari and Rajabala also depend on the roads.
“In As construction of a mega bridge connecting Phulbari-Dubri is in the pipeline, it will be very critical to upgrade these roads to national highway serving a multipurpose use and for economic growth of the region,” he said.
