Assam teen drowns in Tura resort

TURA: A holiday trip to the Garo Hills ended in tragedy for a fifteen-year-old  boy from Guwahati who got drowned at the swimming pool in a popular resort in Tura on Sunday afternoon.

The young boy from Maligaon locality of Guwahati city, Ishaan Swargiary, had come to Tura to visit the town along with four other relatives.

They visited the popular Tree House Resort in Dakopgre area of the town on Sunday ,where Ishaan and his elder brother  went for swimming  in the resort’s swimming pool to beat the summer heat.

Police informed that although both the brothers did not know how to swim they took the plunge resulting in younger brother Ishaan losing his life while the elder brother managed to survive. The incident occurred at around 12:30 in the afternoon.

Ishaan was immediately rushed to the Tura Civil Hospital where he was declared dead.

Police are conducting a spot enquiry. West Garo Hills superintendent of Police Dr M G R Kumar has informed that a security audit of all resorts in the town will soon be taken in the light of the tragedy.

It is mandatory for a lifeguards to be present in any resort with a swimming pool that has a water depth of four feet and above.

Meanwhile, in the case of the Tree House Resort tragedy Tura police inform that preliminary probe reveal that there was presence of life jackets and a rescue person at the resort.
