TURA: The Border Security Force (BSF) and its counterparts from the neighbouring country, the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB), claim they have no information or confirmation on the arrest of GNLA chairman Champion Sangma.

The two security organizations continue to maintain the official standard line that they have not been briefed on any arrest of an Indian citizen.

A senior BSF official overseeing border security in the North-East contacted his counterpart from Bangladesh to seek details on the arrest theory.

The sector commander of Mymensing’s Border Guards to whom the BSF officer spoke to clarified that his organization has no information on arrest of any militant or Indian national residing in his country in the last few days.

“He (BGB sector commander) was unsure about the arrest,” said the BSF official.

The denial of the militant chief’s detention inside the country by the BGB assumes significance given that ties between both countries forces have been at its best ever since the Hasina government took office.

BSF sources, in the meantime, mention that their field agents have picked up reports of an individual being arrested but very little information was flowing in on the identity of the arrested person.
