NONGSTOIN: A road project for West Khasi Hills that was approved by the PWD 22 years ago remains a non-starter though government report shows that construction is complete.
An 11-km road from Mawthungmarwei to Mawlangsu via Photumbah was sanctioned in 1995 to reduce travel time of the residents of Rambrai in the district, village Secretary of Photumbah Sepngi Fr Nongsiej said.
But when the project did not take off for years, the Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong along with MLA KP Pangniang went to meet the PWD engineer in 2015.
The team was, however, told that according to official report, the road was completed with black-topping and bridges whereas contractors tasked with the job never started it.
After the Rambrai circle of FKJGP came to know about this, it demanded that the state government start an inquiry. The road will help residents of Rambrai to directly travel to Mawlangsu and Shillong instead of taking a detour from Nongstoin, which is more than 24 km. FKJGP blamed PWD’s negligence and said the fund released for the project was pocketed.
Jistarland Lyngkhoi, President FKJGP Rambrai Circle assured the people of the area that the federation would pursue the matter.
