MPCC condemns Lankesh murder
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee has condemned the undemocratic heinous murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh in Bangalore. “We pray that justice be meted out according to law,” the committee said.

NEC funds for Rajasimla hall
SHILLONG: The North Eastern Council has funded a project for the construction of the Omed-ni Jamdap’ (Omed Memorial Hall) at Rajasimla under Kharkutta C&RD Block in North Garo Hills. The project has been sanctioned at a cost of Rs 90, 61,000, with Rs 32, 61,000 released as the first installment for the financial year 2016-17. The A’chik Baptist Dalgipa Krima (ABDK) will celebrate the completion of 150 years of Christianity in Garo Hills Sesquicentennial in February 2018. The Omed-ni Jamdap’ will also accommodate tourists during the event and serve as the pastoral tourist lodge. Residents however said work was yet to start at the site despite just four months remaining for the event. Rajasimla is a historic place where Christianity started in Garo Hills.

59 arrested in Excise raids in WGH
TURA: A total of 59 persons were arrested and booked under Section 53 (1) (a) of the ME Act during separate raids conducted all over West Garo Hills District by the Excise Department within the months of July and August. The West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner (Excise) informed that the raids resulted in the seizure of approximately 113.435 litres of IMFL, 3.800 litres of beer and 39.405 litres of ID liquor. A total of 66 cases were disposed off and a fine amounting to Rs 41,120/- realized, the DC added.

Accident
SHILLONG: On September 6, Dr. H.A. Sangma, M&HO, CHC Mahendraganj lodged an FIR that Biswajit Hajong (33) a driver of a dumper truck was brought to CHC, where he succumbed to his injuries. On enquiry, it was ascertained that the booth of the vehicle suddenly crashed on his head while he was cleaning the vehicle at Rapapanggre village in South West Garo Hills causing grievous injuries to him. The cadaver was sent to hospital for post mortem examination and the matter is under enquiry.

Road mishap
SHILLONG: A motorcycle rider, Obert Nadon, 29, and a scooty rider, Vicky Lamurong, 31, sustained injuries when their vehicles lost control and skidded at 7th Mile in Upper Shillong on Friday. Another person, who was riding pillion on the bike, was also injured. They were admitted to Civil Hospital here.

New police station in EJH
SHILLONG: The Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Home (Police) Department informed that a new police station has been created at Lumshnong in East Jaintia Hills District to be known as the Lumshnong Police Station. On creation of the police station, the areas coming under its jurisdiction shall cease to be under the Khliehriat Police Station. Villages falling under this police station includes Chehruphi, Thangskai, Wahiajer, Lumshnong, Umstain, Tongseng, Lum Tongseng, Sakri, Sonapurdi, Symplong, Myrli, Kuliang, Purtakuna, Umkiang, Wahkoh, Dona Bhoi, Dona Skur, Dona Umblu, Ratacherra, Malidor, Lumphyllut, Lumsoski, Borsora, Lejri, Baskuna, Lailong, Huroi, Hingaria, Umrasiang, Umlong, Arthyrnia, Moosiang Lamare Old and New, Brichyrnot and Khaddum. 

FKJGP wants agri status for pine
NONGSTOIN: The Federation of Khasi-Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) in West Khasi Hills on Friday urged KHADC chief executive member PN Syiem to recognise pine tree as an important agriculture in the state. In a statement to the media, president of the federation’s district unit Palwanbor Syiem, said pine trees have become one of the most important flora species in the state, especially in West Khasi Hills. “People here plant pine trees and take care like any other species because within 10-15 years they will give many benefits,” the statement said.

West JH District BJP constituted
SHILLONG: The State BJP constituted a new Mandal committee where members were appointed to the party’s Nartiang Mandal Committee on Friday. A meeting of BJP-Nartiang Mandal (Constituency) was held at Nartiang Poh Shnong where state BJP leaders including Pankaj Deka (Organisation Incharge Khasi & Jaintia Hills), Khrawboklang Basaiawmoit (Incharge West Jaintia Hills District), Basu Chakraborty (Spokesperson), president of BJP-WJHD, Marki Mulieh were present. The members appointed Diamond Dhar as President and Moina Phyllut as advisor.
