SHILLONG: The state unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has decided against contesting the 2018 Assembly polls as the party wants to focus on organising itself at the grassroots level in the state.
“We will not contest the election this year. We are yet to organise ourselves at the grassroots level and it will be difficult to stand for elections,” general secretary of the party state unit Wonder Lapang told The Shillong Times.
Lapang, however, was quick to add that the party was hopeful of contesting the next district council elections.
Predicting a hung Assembly in the state in 2018, the AAP state functionary said, “BJP will not come to power though it might win a few seats. Coalition government is inevitable in Meghalaya post 2018 polls.”
