SHILLONG: Joannes JTL Lamare, the joint secretary of the United Democratic Party, state youth wing, has petitioned the party high command, claiming that the alliance between the UDP and HSPDP has caused a lot of distress among “many others”.
In the petition to Jemino Mawthoh, the party’s general secretary, Lamare said there has been a mass exodus of members from the UDP as they are dissatisfied with the way the party was being managed.
“The alliance between the UDP and HSPDP has really caused a lot of distress among many others. Many have left the party over the issue and it is just a matter of time that many will follow suit,” he said.
Stating that many loyal party leaders and members were leaving the party along with their supporters, Lamare said that many of these leaders who left the party were great assets to the party and their exit would further hurt the party’s prospects in the forthcoming elections.
“There is also resentment among many leaders and members within the party as they are against contesting the upcoming elections on what was termed, “Friendly Match”. Many are of the opinion that it was not a fair decision,” he said.
“There are those who have worked and prepared hard, and honestly, to be able to contest in the elections and them being denied a party ticket, was not a fair reward. There are also those who have to be involved in the so-called “Friendly Match” when they are still sitting MLAs,” Lamare said.
He also feared that the mass exodus of party leaders and members from the party have given “blood and air” for other parties to gain ground.
