NONGSTOIÑ: Despite the UDP-HSPDP alliance in some constituencies in West Khasi Hills, there are still many aspirants who do not want to be part of the team.
One of the contestants of HSPDP from Mawthadraishan Constituency, Biolinda Lyngdoh Nonglait said that prior to the alliance between the two parties, the campaign for the upcoming elections from the HSPDP in Mawthadraishan constituency was already in full swing.
She added that she cannot fulfill the agreements made by the two parties due to this reason and and added she would continue to contest as HSPDP candidate. However in other constituencies like Nongstoin, Rambrai and Mawshynrut this allegiance is accepted and the allied parties will work together for the upcoming elections.
In Rambrai constituency both of the parties have agreed to support the HSPDP candidate who has already served the area for the past few years. This decision was made only after a meeting arranged by the two parties recently.
This meeting was held in Nongstoin whereby K.P Pangniang, MLA of Rambrai- Jyrngam constituency and a candidate of HSPDP for the upcoming election was present. This meeting was held in the presence of Ristonding Marwein, president of the UDP Rambrai Jyrngam circle, T.Lyngdoh secretary of the UDP Rambrai Jyrngam Circle, B. Kharbani vice president of the UDP WKHD, P. Lyngdoh secretary UDP WKHD and others.
In the meeting the UDP Rambrai Jyrngam Circle agreed to support the HSPDP candidates of both Nongstoin Constituency and Rambrai Jyrngam Constituency for the 2018 Assembly elections so that they can both achieve victory.
Pangniang said that even though there is an alliance between the two parties, there will be friendly contest and open seats in some constituencies. However in Rambrai Jyrngam constituency this alliance will stay strong.
He also expressed gratitude for the UDP who have agreed to this alliance since it can bring victory of the Hill State Parties in the 2018 polls.
Pangniang further said that the alliance is based on three objectives. The first is to achieve victory in the 2018 polls, the second is to form a government between HSPDP and UDP, and the third objective is that a victory of a candidate does not mean a victory just for his party but for both the parties.
