TURA: Bernard Rimpu N Marak, against whom an FIR was filed by Danakgre Aking Nokma, Enilla Ch Marak has claimed that it was the Chambugong Mahari that pressured Enilla to file the FIR as well as to withdraw the case filed in the Shillong High Court against the eviction of encroachers at Rongkha Chiring.
According to Rimpu, a meeting was held by the Chambugong Mahari in which Enilla was made to attend and pressured to do their bidding.
“These facts were informed by people who attended the meeting and also from close relatives of Akhing Nokma in whom she confided. Why the Akhing Nokma was made to sign a document without the consent of her chras and machong needs thorough investigation. Mahari Associations, NGOs or Govt cannot interfere in the matters of the Akhing. GHADC confirmed this in the latest RTI. Machong is motherhood and Mahari is cluster of Machongs. It is the machong and not the mahari who can decide on Akhing matters, so how many members of machong were present in the meeting?” Marak questioned.
On the issue of eviction of Rongkha Chiring residents, Bernard stated that very few know the facts and that the movement to protect the tribal interest of Tura Town would continue with or without the Nokima.
