SHILLONG: Congress MDC PT Sawkmie, who is contesting the 2018 Assembly elections from Mawlai, was optimistic about the Congress doing well in the polls.
Speaking to media persons here on Monday, Sawkmie said people of the state have confidence on the Congress as it was the oldest party in the country.
The Congress MDC said people of the state prefer Congress more than any other political party.
According to Sawkmie, NPP and PDF are relatively new parties whereas BJP would not make much impact in the state because of the “anti-people policy of demonetisation”.
Besides, he said the people do not seem to be happy with the outcome of Goods and Service Tax.
About the elections in Mawlai constituency, he said he had already applied for the ticket in the party and since no one has applied for it, he is all set to get the ticket. He said the party has already prepared its strategy for election in Mawlai constituency.
Mawlai is heading for a stiff contest as altogether five candidates as of now have already announced their will to contest the elections.
