Langsning trounce Sherpas

 SHILLONG: Local favourites Langsning FC defeated Yeti Himalayan Sherpas Club, Nepal 3-1 in the quarter-final league match of the 22nd All India Meghalaya Invitation Football Tournament played at First Division Ground, Polo here on Wednesday.

Langsning went into the lead in the 13th minute after striker Victor Shadap’s powerful strike saw the ball sailing into the net.

Two minutes later, Yinka Joel Sunday Ayeni headed the ball past the Sherpa custodian from a well crafted pass by PK Ningleithing to give the home team a 2-0 lead.

Unperturbed by the goals, the spirited team from Nepal took the attack to the opposition to keep the Langsning defenders busy. And their efforts finally paid off after Dinesh Karki crossed one to Ritesh who scored to reduce the margin during the injury time in the first half.

The Sherpas continued their attacking game in the second half. There was a major controversy in the 70th minute when Langsning defender Samuel Kane Arhu pushed the ball with his hand inside the box. But the referee Tarun Kumar Singh failed to notice the same which led to a protest by the Nepal players.

Ironically, Langsning were awarded a penalty in the 75th minute, after the Himalayan Sherpas defenders committed a foul inside the box. Yinka Joel Sunday made not mistake to convert to give Langsning a thumping 3-1 victory.

On Saturday Ar-Hima will take on Tata Football Academy.
