SHILLONG: Deficit teachers of Meghalaya under the banner of Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA) and Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers Association would soon meet Chief Minister Mukul Sangma to seek a clarification on the non-inclusion of deficit teachers in the Fifth Pay Commission.
Talking to media persons after a joint meeting of the two groups here on Saturday, KJDSTA president ED Nongsiang said the deficit teachers were included in the first, second, third and fourth Pay Commissions and they were expecting that the deficit teachers would be included in the fifth one too.
However, they were surprised by the statement of the chief minister that said the terms of reference of the pay commission were for government employees whereas for deficit teachers, there were different schemes. “We feel we should be included in the Fifth Pay Commission as we were included in the previous revisions of pay,” he said.
Later, the deficit teachers sought clarification from senior bureaucrats and they were assured that they would be included in the Fifth Pay Commission.
“If we are not included in the new pay revision, we are ready to negotiate and depending on the situation, we will decide what is to be done,” he said.
If the deficit teachers are included in the Fifth Pay Commission, around 6000 deficit schools teachers in the state would benefit.
