SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma on Wednesday informed that the state government was in the final stage of starting land acquisition process to construct a four-lane road from   Nongmynsong to Diengpassoh on Shillong bye-pass.

Speaking to media during his visit to Tynring village on Wednesday, Mukul Sangma said that the alignment for the proposed road was almost  over and once the alignment was freezed and owners identified and verified, the Government would undertake the process of land acquisition.

According to Sangma, the idea behind the four-lane project was to connect Shillong with Shillong Bye pass and government had a right of way from Diengpassoh to Mawpdang. He claimed that people had been supporting the project.

The four-lane project would go through Tyrning village as the village is located in the middle of Shillong bye-pass and Nongmynsong.

Sangma also informed that the government recently   sanctioned and allotted the work for augmentation of the water supply scheme   in the area.

“I will be laying the foundation for the project shortly,” he told reporters.

The proposed augmentation of water scheme would cover Tynring village besides the nearby areas which would soon have plenty of institutions.

However, the water supply project has been slightly delayed as   there are some issues pertaining to the submergence of some private land in the reservoir which is the intake point of the project.

‘The Local MLA will facilitate dialogue and try to overcome the challenge,” he added.
