SHILLONG: The Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association (KJDSTA) has once again reiterated its opposition over the exclusion of deficit teachers from the purview of the 5th Pay Commission recommendations.

KJDSTA President, ED Nongsiang on Monday said that they were hoping for a statement from the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma during the Assembly session.

According to KJDSTA president ED Nongsiang, the deficit teachers are expecting the Chief Minister to make some statement on the issue of inclusion of deficit teachers under the 5th Pay Commission.

“We don’t want to be in the streets again and we hope we are included in the 5th Pay Commission,” he said.

The deficit teachers were irked after, Mukul Sangma had informed that the deficit teachers would not be included under the 5th Pay Commission.

Nongsiang asserted that the 5th Pay Commission even had discussions with the teachers while the Commission was undertaking its exercise but the State Cabinet disapproved their inclusion under the new pay structure.

However, the teachers are hoping that since they too were included in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Pay Commission, their inclusion in the 5th Pay can also be adjusted.

Nongsiang said that they have already submitted a letter to the Chief Minister seeking an appointment but they have not received any response so far.

“If the CM does not make any statement, we will meet shortly and discuss the matter,” he asserted.
