SHILLONG: Students from the different colleges in the city have sought clarification from the state government over its failure to distribute M-Tabs among Class XII students of 2015-2016 academic session.
Speaking to media persons here on Monday, Enlang Sawian, Class XII student of the 2015-2016 batch, said, “We have not received the M-Tab, which is part of the ‘Student Digital Learning Aid Scheme’ of the state government.”
Expressing concern as the scheme is for the benefit of the student community, Enlang said, “We want to ask the state government why it has not been able to sustain the scheme. We have strong doubts that the Congress has brought the scheme just to woo the voters of the state during elections.”
He said chief minister, Mukul Sangma should understand that students cannot be fooled every time and that they know whom to elect.
The concern was voiced on the eve of distribution of M-Tabs under Students Digital Learning Aid Scheme 2017 by the chief minister at Polo Ground. The East Khasi Hills district administration in association with the information technology and communication department is organising the distribution function on Tuesday.
Recalling the RTI filed by the Hynniewtrep Youth Council which had revealed the expenditure incurred by the state government for distribution of the M-tab, he said it revealed misappropriation of nearly Rs 6 crore in the purchase of the M-tab by the state government.
“We suspect that the funds will be used for the upcoming elections,” the student alleged.
He further said the student community of the state would soon write to the Union ministry of human resource development to request for instituting a CBI inquiry on the alleged misappropriation of funds in the implementation of the ‘Student Digital Learning Aid Scheme’.
