11-year-old commits suicide

NONGPOH: An 11-year-old student of Ri Bhoi Presbyterian Higher Secondary School here committed suicide at her residence at Mawdiangum in the district on Friday morning.
The girl, who recently cleared her final examination for promotion to Class V, wanted to go to the market with her parents but her ) mother did not allow her and asked her to stay at home till her elder sister returned, police said.
The police said she might have been annoyed by the refusal.
The victim’s maternal uncle came to her house looking for a mobile charger and found the door locked from inside. When he looked inside the room through an open window, he saw the girl hanging from the wooden cross-beam of the ceiling. He raised an alarm. The window was broken with the help of neighbours and the body was brought down. The girl used a gamocha to hang herself.
The police later shifted the body to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for postmortem.
