45% new voters
Out of over 32,000 newly enrolled voters, 45% are first timers.
Earlier, the registered voters were 17. 68 lakh and the newly added voters are 32,221 as on December 19.
The Chief Election Commissioner AK Joti said that the EPICs should be sent to new voters by mid January.
Photo voters slip
Unlike the past, the district election officers will ensure issuing of photo voters slip.
According to the Election Commission, the district election officers will ensure that the booth level officers go to the houses of the voters and provide the slips.
Earlier, the political parties used to issue the slips.
Only 50% booths electrified
Out of the 3082 polling stations, only 50 percent have electricity raising concerns
over the smooth conduct of polls. The percentage of coverage for rams to facilitate the disabled for voting is 72, drinking water facilities (70%), toilets (92%) and waiting rooms (72%).
To facilitate the disabled, a data base is being prepared by the election department. The Chief Election Commissioner AK Joti has asked the chief secretary Y Tsering to ensure uninterrupted power supply in all polling stations with solar or temporary lights.
60 all women polling stations
Taking a cue from the success of some all women polling stations in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, the election department will ensure setting up of 60 all women polling stations. While there were 182 all women polling stations in Gujarat, there were 68 in Himachal Pradesh.
Air intelligence units to check money power
The Chief Election Commissioner AK Joti said that to check the use of money power, several steps have been taken by the Election Commission.
To facilitate the movement of personnel to track the money trail, air intelligence units will be placed at Guwahati and Umroi airports.Besides, flying squads, static surveillance team will also be deployed , Joti said.According to the official, the transaction of Rs 10 lakh above will come under the scrutiny of the Income Tax officials and expenditure observers will also be posted in all the 11 districts.
