SHILLONG: The committee headed by Chief Secretary Y Tsering that is examining the applications of tainted candidates following the education scam will dispose of the matter soon.
“We had one sitting and one more meeting will be held to decide on the five to six applications which we had received,” the chief secretary said.
The official, however, hinted that since the applications reached the office after the expiry of the deadline, they may not be considered.
The committee was formed after the November 2 order of the High Court that said the candidates who were found tainted or blemished in the CBI and the High Level Scrutiny Committee reports were free to make a representation to the chief secretary for consideration as untainted candidates.
As per the order, if the committee finds that the candidates are untainted, they can participate in the fresh selection process.
But if the panel confirms the tainted character of any candidate, he or she will be permanently debarred from seeking any government employment and will also pay a penalty of Rs 50,000.
