JOWAI: The Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council winter session began on Monday. The session began with questions and replies in which opposition members including Marki Mulieh and MB Rymbai raised various queries against the Executive Committee including the total number of trading licenses issued to non-tribal traders, the completion of the Court building, the Dorbar Hall and fresh appointment for Council staff.
In reply to Mulieh’s questions, Executive Member in-charge WG Sungoh informed the House that 26 trading licenses were issued during the period from July 2017 to December 2017.
Hollando Lamin informed the House that the deadline for the construction of the Dorbar Hall was 30 months. But due to shortage of funds, it will take more time to complete.
Lamin also informed that the construction of the court building is 85 percent complete and he hoped that the building will be completed by December this year.
JHADC chief, Andrew Shullai in his reply informed the house that 24 fresh candidates were appointed for the post of LDA.
 Council overstaffed
MB Rymbai questioned the policy of the EC for making 24 fresh appointments despite the Council facing acute financial crunch. The JHADC has 1290 employees which indicates that the Council is already overstaffed.
Shullai replied that the appointments were made as per the budget provisions and rules.
Rymbai also questioned about the long pending Iawmusiang Market Project besides a number of projects implemented under the Central Special Assistant Grant.
The Jaintia Hills Autonomous District (Election and Tenure of the Office of the Sirdar of Sumer Elaka), Rules, 2018 was introduced in the House and the same was unanimously passed.
