JOWAI: The Dorbar Shnong of Muskut in West Jaintia Hills has threatened to boycott the Assembly polls if the Election Commission fails to set up a polling station in the village.
According to the headman, Kyrsiew Kharbithai, the decision to boycott the upcoming election was taken in the general meeting of the Dorbar Shnong held on January 16.
“We have written to the district administration and the election office in the district since November 2017 for setting up a polling station in the village but there is no response till date,” the headman said.
The headman said voters have to walk to Mookyndur village, a distance of more than 10 km, to vote. He also informed that people don’t feel safe to travel so far.
