SHILLONG: Congress president Rahul Gandhi was not aware of the controversy raging over the jacket which he wore during the peace concert on Tuesday when a media person sought his response on Wednesday.
After the matter was brought to his notice during an interaction with media persons in the city, Rahul said, “Somebody gave it to me”.
The British brand Burberry jacket worth Rs 63,400 was the news of the day for the electronic media which also highlighted the tweet of Meghalaya BJP that said: “So @OfficeOfRG soot (pun intended!)-boot ki sarkar with ‘black’ money fleeced from Meghalayan State exchequer by rampant corruption? Instead of singing away our woes, you could have given a report card of your inefficient govt in Meghalaya! Your indifference mocks us!”
However, Rahul said he was not aware of the tweet and the related news.
“I am not aware of the tweet, but the jacket was gifted to me”, Rahul said.
Modi does not hug poor, but VIPs
To a question, Rahul explained the context in which he spoke about the ‘suit-boot sarkar’ of the BJP led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“You have to see it in the context of the poor. The Prime Minister is not for the poor. If you see the PM, you will never see him hugging a poor person, talking to a poor person, engaging with a poor person. You will see him hugging others and there is a particular distance he maintains which he does not do with Mr Obama and others”, Rahul said.
To a query, Rahul said, “Touching a feet and hugging are two different things, hugging is a close physical closeness”.
