TURA: Filing of nominations by candidates is yet to pick up in Garo Hills on the second day with only a lone candidate putting in his papers on Thursday.
It was United Democratic Party (UDP)’s Nimarson Momin who opened the account for South West Garo Hills and submitted his nomination papers at the deputy commissioner’s office in Ampati, the home constituency of Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma.
Momin is contesting the 55-Salmanpara Constituency seat which he won in the 2008 assembly polls. He is pitted against Congress’ Winarson D Sangma and National People’s Party (NPP)’s Ian Botham Sangma.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which is yet to announce any of its candidates may also put up a candidate to contest for the seat.
In Tura, several candidates were seen collecting the nomination form at the deputy commissioner’s office in Tura but it is yet uncertain when they will be filing their nominations. Williamnagar, Baghmara and Resubelpara also recorded a zero with no candidates turning up to file their nominations.
