EMRI completes nine years

SHILLONG: With a fleet strength of forty-eight ambulances located in forty-three locations across eleven districts in the entire state of Meghalaya, GVK EMRI – Meghalaya operations on Thursday completed nine years in the mission of saving lives.
As on January 31, the Emergency Response Centre (ERC) has attended to 1, 90, 000 calls since its inception and the 108 Emergency Service Ambulance based in the State has handled more than one lakh seventy three thousand calls of which 28 percent are pregnancy related and ten percent are road accidents.
The wheels of hope had saved over 19, 000 lives and carried out 1,700 deliveries which have been assisted and conducted by the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) inside the 108 ambulance. Nationally, GVK EMRI is operating in 15 states and Union Territory in India as well as operating emergency services in Sri Lanka.
Apart from attending to emergency relating to medical, police and fire – GVK EMRI has also introduced services like Animal Ambulance on dialing 1962 through the Department of Animal Husbandry, dial 100, Women’s Helpline 181, Inter Facility Transport Ambulance, Mobile Medical Unit, Pediatric and Neonatal Ambulance.
Drop back ambulance to reduce infant and maternal mortality rate and call facility of 104 for health Emergency were other initiatives.
A two-year residential full time Advance Post Graduate Diploma in Emergency Care designed by Stanford University and recognized by Osmania University is also being conducted by GVK EMRI.
The emergency service has also successfully completed the Emergency Room Technicians (ERT) project funded by the World Bank for a period of 2 years in Meghalaya, Assam and Mizoram.
