NEW DELHI: After a not-so-impressive show in the Assembly elections in Meghalaya, the BJP is starting early preparations for the Lok Sabha election in 2019.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah have urged state Cabinet Minister AL Hek to strengthen the organisation before the next battle.
Hek, who is the leader of the BJP legislature party in the new Assembly, met Modi and Shah before leaving for Shillong on Sunday. He was in the Capital for a week.
The state minister told The Shillong Times that both Modi and Shah were
happy that BJP was growing rapidly in the North East and inching towards making a ‘Congress-mukt Bharat’.
The Congress was in power in all the eight states in the region but is now left with only Mizoram.
“The duo was hopeful that BJP will soon rule all over the country, including the North East,” Hek said after the meeting.
Hek appreciated the role of the BJP top brass in strengthening the party in the North East.
“They (Modi and Shah) assured that the BJP-led NDA government will extend all help to the northeastern states as promised,” said the minister who presented traditional shawls to the Prime Minister and the BJP chief.
