SHILLONG: Police on Tuesday informed that a sanction of over Rs. 2.33 crore by the Commissioner of Police, Delhi was accorded towards the construction of pre-fabricated huts (portable cabins) along with development works for the Company Headquarters of Meghalaya Police located at P.T.S Wazirabad in New Delhi.
This has been a long pending issue since Meghalaya police personnel were first deployed in Delhi in 2008.
The headquarter at P.T.S Wazirabad serves as the Company headquarter for three Meghalaya Police Battalions.
A statement said that due to lack of adequate infrastructure, the personnel had to be accommodated in makeshift tents and hutments.
The approved project seeks to change these arrangements and modern pre-fabricated huts will be set up to replace the existing accommodations.
The proposed structures will accommodate at least 3 companies comprising about 300 personnel. The cabins will also cater for officers, administrative office and it will have a dispensary and an armoury.
The sanction for these cabins has been made possible due to the initiation and combined efforts of the senior officers of the Ministry of Home Affairs, State Home Police Department, Delhi Police, Police Headquarters and the former and the present Commandant 6th MLP BN (4th IRBN), the statement added.
