SHILLONG: A total number of 15 power projects are under implementation by different agencies in the state as informed by Power Minister, James K Sangma.
James placed a statement in the Assembly on Tuesday in reply to a question raised by Independent MLA S K Sunn.
As per the statement of the Power Minister, six power projects are on BOOT basis (build, own, operate, transfer) and 4 power projects on BOO (build, own, operate) basis, two are thermal power projects and three are of new and renewable energy projects.
The Hydro-electricity projects allotted to Central Agency & Private Developers (on BOOT basis) are: Kynshi stage I Hydro Electric (HE) Project-270 MW, Rangmaw HE Project-65 MW, Kynshi Stage II HE Project-325 MW, Mawphu HE Project-85 MW, Upper Khri stage I HE Project-15 MW, Upper Khri Stage II HE Project-10 MW.
The Hydro projects allotted to private developers (self-identified on BOO basis) are: Nongsummer Small HE Project-18 MW, Umlun Micro HJydel Project-50 KW, Umran Small HE Project-10 MW, Mawrap Mini Hydel Project-1 MW.
The thermal power projects allotted to Central Agency and private developers are: Thermal Power project Nangalbibra, South Garo Hills-240 MW and Thermal Power Project Darugiri, East Garo Hills-500 MW.
The new and renewable energy projects allotted to private developer (self-identified on BOO basis): The Renewable Technology (Closed Loop vertical Turbine) project is in Byrnihat-24 MW, Ampati- 48 MW and Mendipathar-48 MW.
Raising a supplementary query, Congress MLA HM Shangpliang asked on the status of Mawphu project in which James informed the MLA from Mawsynram that the matter was pending with the Central Electricity Authority and techno-economic clearance (TEC) was also being awaited.
Shangpliang said that he had a meeting with MD of NEEPCO on the Mawphu Power Project and asserted that the latter was keen to start the projects due to cost escalation and urged the Power Minister to expedite the matter.
As for objection to the name of the project by a section of the people, James said that the matter was being looked into by the Deputy Commissioner.
When Congress MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh asked on the fate of thermal projects that were using coal, in the wake of coal mining ban, James admitted that the ban on coal had affected on the thermal projects.
He was hopeful that the ban on coal would be lifted so that power projects would not face any difficulty.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA Zenith Sangma pointed out that the state was not self-sufficient in power and asked whether the government would set up new power projects and mini hydro power projects to which James replied that the matter would be examined.
Another Congress MLA, Charles Pyngrope asked about the total requirement of power in the state to which James informed that the total installed capacity was 1659.05 MW.
Earlier, James informed the installed of the 10 hydro power project was 799.05 MW that of thermal power projects was 740 MW, new and renewable power projects was 120 MW.
