SHILLONG: Nela Handloom Traning Centre cum Production Unit (NHTCPU) which provides training on weaving the traditional handloom fabric, Ryndia (better known as Eri silk), was inaugurated at Mawkasiang on Saturday.

The center was inaugurated by Deputy Secretary of Sericulture and Weaving, W.A.M. Booth, in which local MDC Pyniaid Sing Syiem, officials of the department were also present along with Project director of Gross Climate Change Adaptation North Eastern Region of India (CCA-NER), Peter Gross.

It was ten years ago that Dkhar got an opportunity to start entrepreneurial venture in weaving after getting trained from the Sericulture & Weaving department.

In addition, he got assistance from German Cooperation, a branch of CCA-NER of Ministry of DoNER in partnership with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

Later, it was no turning back for Dkhar when he in turn trained other people in weaving traditional handloom.
