Party to soon take a call on CM Conrad’s status

SHILLONG: Who will sacrifice the seat to pave way for the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to be elected as an MLA or whether the incumbent Chief Minister will head back to the Parliament will be decided shortly.

NPP State working president, WR Kharlukhi said that the matter would be decided by the party in a week or two

He, however, did not answer as from which Constituency, Conrad Sangma will contest the polls, if he will contest the elections at all

The party president also said that the matter has not been discussed in the party at all as of now.

Conrad Sangma in March this year was sworn-in as Chief Minister of the state and he is leading an alliance of five parties in Meghalaya where such coalitions have been far from being stable.

Sangma did not contest the Assembly elections   held earlier this year   and during poll the campaign in the run up to February Assembly polls, the National People’s Party (NPP) had projected Prestone Tyngson as its chief ministerial candidate

However, UDP which supported NPP to form the Government were firm that Conrad Sangma should head the coalition government as the Chief Minister.

It was speculated that Conrad Sangma would contest the recently in the by poll to Ampati LAC whjch was held On May 28 last, party fielded Clement G Momin and Miani D Shira from Congress emerged victorious with a margin of over 3000 votes.
