SHILLONG: Residents of Shella were reportedly upset over the decision of the District Council Court to suspend secretary of the village Wantei Swett after 20 members complained against him.
Addressing reporters on Friday, Binestar Ksanlah, secretary of Kher (locality) Nongrum, said the 20 members surreptitiously held a meeting scheming to suspend Swett and hand over the post of secretary to Johnstelin Youroi.
“This act of the 20 members has angered the residents of Shella village,” Ksanlah said.
He added that it was surprising as Roy Kupar Synrem, who is a member of an organization, was also part of the meeting as he lost the election to the post of secretary.
Ksanlah said the secretary is elected by the people and Swett got a total of over 265 votes.
“The secretary of the Dorbar Shnong Shella is elected by the people and his function is to write the proceedings of the decision made in the Dorbar and to implement the work of the dorbar,” he said.
Ksanlah said after the disorder in the village, the residents of Shella have not received the audit and other important documents of the village.
“The development funds meant for the Kher is left untilised in the fund of the village since the tenure of Roy Kupar Synrem as secretary,” he added.
