SHILLONG: The high-level committee on relocation of Punjabi Lane residents will ask the Directorate of Land Records and Survey to immediately conduct a detailed land survey in the locality.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who is heading the committee, told reporters after a meeting on Friday that the directorate will be given 10 days to complete the survey of Punjabi Lane, or Them Iew Mawlong.
The survey is likely to start next week.
Tynsong maintained that a fresh survey is necessary to have clarity on the ownership because one portion of the land belongs to the Shillong Municipal Board and the other to the Hima Mylliem.
“We will again meet to decide on our next course of action after receiving the detailed survey map from the Directorate of Land and Records,” the deputy chief minister said.
When asked if any survey was done in the past, Tynsong said till date, a detailed survey had never been carried out and as of now, the municipal board, the Syiem of Mylliem or the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council does not have a detailed map of the area.
The committee is also collecting information on the number of Grade 4 employees in various departments of the civic body residing in the area.
Tynsong said the panel has co-opted two more members, Tourism Minister Metbah Lyngdoh and MLA Renikton L Tongkhar.
