Exempt Council areas from Town Planning Act: MLA

SHILLONG: South Shillong legislator Sanbor Shullai on Wednesday met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to seek exemption of the Meghalaya Town and Country Planning Act, 1972 from the District Council administered areas.
Speaking to reporters after meeting the chief minister, Shullai said he requested Sangma to convene a meeting with the Law department and various stakeholders for a thorough discussion on the issue.
“The meeting was very fruitful and the chief minister has given us the assurance to look into the matter,” Shullai said adding that the chief minister will hand over the matter to the Law department for their views.
The administered areas in Shillong include Laitumkhrah, Malki, Mawkhar, Jaiaw, Mawprem, Kench’s Trace, Laban and Lumparing.
