MAWKYRWAT: The headmen of four villages under the proposed Ranikor C&RD Block on Wednesday petitioned the Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills, Isawanda Laloo, demanding exclusion from the proposed civil sub-division.
In a memorandum submitted to the DC, the headmen of the four villages said, “The people of Thiepdiengngan, Nongkynbah, Nongpdeng Kenbah and Sarin villages have faced many problems in the past because of the distance from the Block office which is 50 km away, double the distance to the district headquarter of Mawkyrwat which is only 25 km.”
They further added that the distance from their villages to the block office has affected the people in all areas besides leading to commuting problems. “It is very difficult to go to Ranikor. Once we go there, we have to spend the whole day because of the distance. Secondly, people have to wait for hours for vehicles to reach Ranikor and on many occasions they are forced to spend lot of money to hire vehicles,” the statement said.“It will be wiser to bring the administration closer to the people by shifting our villages from Ranikor C&RD Block to Mawkyrwat C&RD Block as the inclusion in Ranikor will continue to make our people suffer,” the four headmen said.
