SHILLONG: Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio, which had taken mobile telephony by storm in the country, has gone sloppy as far as Meghalaya is concerned.
Complaints of ‘vanishing towers’ from Jio’s customers from various parts of the city angered the customers who are unhappy over the service being rendered by this telecom firm.
Customers of Jio are experiencing missing towers on their handsets since early last week. Though the phenomenon was noticed initially in Greater Laban, that spread to Laitumkhrah and other localities in the city.
Many customers said that Jio attributed this towerless service, with the aid of a flash message, to a new ban on internet and SMS notified by the state government, a “bogus” claim rubbished by sources from the East Khasi Hills district administration.
Customers said that how can the government ban only a single telecom firm when other telecom service provider were providing regular services.
Customers said that their complaints were returned with “unbelievable claims” by Jio.
Whereas one customer from Kench’s Trace showed an sms reply from Jio stating that his location is not covered adequately by Jio network, another customer – from Nongrimmaw – when he asked why the government banned only Jio, he was told its increasing customer base being the reason. Regarding network, customers said that the version of Jio cannot be believed since they have been receiving uninterrupted coverage since the start of Jio.
Others also complained that network remained on and off uncountable times throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday. They also complained that Jio did not address their complaints with the given timeframe provided by the service provider.
