SHILLONG: Mawkaphan village in Mawsynram is reeling under darkness for almost two months following the breakdown of a transformer in the area.
The village was in total darkness since May 18 and till date, the villagers have not received any help from the concerned department to replace the transformer.
Jeebon Kynter, headman, Mawkaphan village had informed the workers of MeECL, Mawsynram sub-division about the disruption in power supply but he was told that the problem was with the transformer which has to be replaced.
K. N. War, Chief Engineer (Distribution), MeECL Lumjingshai was also apprised of the matter at Mawkaphan village.
War had asked the MeECL workers to replace the transformers at the earliest so that power is restored in the area.
However, till now, the transformer has not been replaced and the village is reeling under darkness, the headman said.
Banshai Marbaniang, a social worker along with the headman on suggestion of the SDO Mawsynram Sub-Division, on Tuesday met the chief engineer (Distribution). They asked him to replace the transformer immediately. The chief engineer pointed out that the department also faces a lot of problem as Mawsynram is only a sub-division covering Lyngiong near Mawphlang up to Maheshkola which is under Ranikor.
“I have written many times to the authorities to make another sub-division in Ranikor and promote Mawsynram into a division to ease the department to perform their duties, but I never received any response on the matter” the chief engineer said.
