SHILLONG: Though there is a relative calm in the city after the last month’s unrest over Sweepers’ Lane, all is not well on the law and order front, according to police.
“It may take more days for the city to become normal as the undercurrents suggest that some elements can create tension,” East Khasi Hills SP Davis Marak said on Thursday.
“However, we will ensure that peace is maintained at all cost,” he added.
He said recently over 50 persons, including members from some pressure groups, were summoned in connection with the probe into the unrest.
Earlier, police had arrested around 75 persons and almost all of them were released on bail.
He said though some security forces were withdrawn, central security personnel are keeping vigil in the vulnerable areas.
The police official added that the night curfew from 12 am to 5 am will continue and the district administration and police are closely monitoring the situation.
Marak admitted that police would have to keep extra vigil after the FIFA World Cup to ensure that there is no trouble in the city compared to the past one month when the focus was on football.
