SHILLONG: The convener of Maitshaphrang, Michael N Syiem, has urged Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to implement a law where all departments must immediately make it mandatory that a marriage registration certificate is furnished for all official purposes.
In the regard, Syiem requested the chief minister to immediately implement the Meghalaya Compulsory Registration of Marriage Act, 2012. In the letter, Syiem said the increasing number of single parents in the society abandoned by their husbands without giving any reimbursement for children results in high school dropout rates and juvenile crimes.
