Essay competition

As part of the National Voters’ Day Celebrations of the Election Commission of India and the Office of the Deputy Commissioner (Elections), East Khasi Hills District will organize an open to all essay competition on January 24. The theme for the competition is “Role of a voter in free, fair, peaceful and fearless elections”.

Training

The Centre for North East Studies, Dibrugarh University, will organise an ICSSR, New Delhi sponsored ten-day training course on Research Methodology and Computer Application in Social Sciences from March 13-22. The course is open for doctoral and post-doctoral scholars, teachers from colleges and universities.

Immunization

The Office of the District Medical and Health Officer, East Khasi Hills under the aegis of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) will hold the observation of Special immunization Week in the East Khasi Hills. The first round will be from January 23 till January 30, the second round will be from February 27 till March 3 while the third round will be from April 16 till April 21

Saraswati Puja

The Rabindranath Tagore Club will organize Saraswati Puja on January 28 at Laban Bengalee Boys’ Lower Primary School premises, ABP Road, Laban.

Body found

An unidentified person was found lying at 7th Mile Upper Shillong at around 7:30pm in an unconscious state on January 18 and was taken to the Civil Hospital, Shillong for treatment. However, on January 19 he expired at around 2pm and accordingly post-mortem examination was conducted and the body was kept at the Civil Hospital Morgue for identification.

Road mishaps

A Maruti Gypsy on its way towards Khliehriat had a head-on collision with a truck coming from the opposite direction at Ar Kilo under Khliehriat Block on January 19 at 8:39pm. The 108 Emergency Service Ambulance (ESA) based at Khliehriat helped in shifting Dig Lamare (30/male) to Khliehriat CHC and Shol Bareh (42/male) to Jowai Civil Hospital and then to Woodland Hospital, Shillong. Both the injured were travelling in the Maruti Gypsy. In another accident, one Misolan Passah (28/male) sustained injuries when he was hit by a truck near the Weigh Bridge at Umling, Ri Bhoi district on January 19 at 11:36pm. The 108 ESA based at Byrnihat admitted him to Downtown Hospital, Guwahati.
