SHILLONG: The All Jaintia Youth Welfare Organization (AJYWO) central body urged the state government, district councils and the citizenry to take the issue of National Register of Citizens (NRC) seriously.

In a statement issued here, the AJYWO president, M H Dkhar said the state government should come up with effective laws to check the flow of illegal migrants.

Dkhar stated that the district council, village council (Dorbar shnong) and the people should be vigilant in their own villages to not allow immigrants in the state.

He further said that the indigenous community should stand united against the growing concern of illegal influx in the state.
