MAWKYRWAT: Support for by-poll candidate Pius Marwein is growing with another NPP senior leader joining the UDP in Ranikor.
Lastborn Pariong, a former president of NPP South West Khasi Hills, joined UDP with his supporters during a public meeting at Nongnah on Saturday.
UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh, working president Paul Lyngdoh, vice president Titosstarwell Chyne, local MDC Manstudy Nongrem and former BJP leader Pelcy Snaitang, besides Marwein and others, were present during the meeting.
Last week, NPP dropped Pariong from the post of president and appointed Kitborlang Nongrem.
Mawthoh appealed to the people of Nongnah to support Marwein.
He also advised party members to work hard towards victory.
The UDP leader blamed Danggo for the “backwardness” of the constituency. “In the last 20 years there was no development and this was because the people and the leaders of this area were not united in electing another representative,” Mawthoh said.
Lyngdoh seconded Mawthoh saying roads connectivity, healthcare and education have been neglected.
