AGARTALA: The CPI(M) leaders have called for a qualitative improvement of party cadres in Tripura in 20th party conference following poll debacle of the Left Front government in West Bengal and Kerala.
According to party insiders, the political and organisational report of CPI(M) state secretary Bijan Dhar has expressed concern over accumulation of wealth, practicing non-communist life-style, inclination towards capitalism, corruption and moral turpitude among the party leaders and cadres.
Although the support base of the party in Tripura has increased sustainably over the years, upcoming assembly elections in the state would not be easy to sweep if Opposition becomes united against the left front,the report apprehended.
“This is the high time for introspection and to work for the people leaving aside all personal benefits, ego and political entity of the voters,” the report suggested.
The Opposition is working hard to highlight the loopholes of the government as well as the party leaders mobilizing a section of media, it added.
The report also claimed that CPI(M) in Tripura had been steadily growing in quantity and quality despite poll reverses suffered in West Bengal and Kerala.
It mentioned that the party has registered an impressive growth after assumption of power in Tripura in 2008.
“At present, we have a party member from among every 27 adult people of Tripura while we have a party member among every 29 of the state’s total electorate of 22.75 lakh that recorded an annual growth rate at 3.26 per cent,” the report stated and added that, over the past four years, 572 party members had been expelled for indiscipline, corruption and anti-party activities.”
While calling upon party members to dedicate themselves to the task of ensuring return of the Left Front government in the Assembly elections next year, Mr Dhar in his report said in all the elections held over the past five years the Left Front had achieved major success.
The CPM in Tripura has launched campaign well ahead of the state assembly elections slated for early next year with the mass rally in Agartala at the beginning of 20th party conference on January 29.
Besides General Secretary Prakash Karat, CPI-M politburo members Sitaram Yechury, Manik Sarkar and Brinda Karat were among the top Marxist leaders addressing the internal sessions of CPI-M’s four-day state conference to make the party more pro-people and strong. (UNI)
