UDP to undertake scrutiny of candidates

SHILLONG: The UDP State Election Committee (SEC) is scheduled to meet on February 6 to scrutinize the list of candidates recommended by the units of the different constituencies for contesting the upcoming 2013 Assembly elections from the party.

“We are going to meet next week to scrutinize the list of candidates recommended by the units of the different constituencies,” UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh informed on Wednesday.

According to Lyngdoh, the party is expected to complete the process of finalization of the candidates within March end.

When asked which constituencies have more than one aspirants for the party tickets, he said that he would be able to give the correct information only after looking into the recommendations made by the different units.

Meanwhile, Lyngdoh informed that the party General Council meeting at Amlarem, Jaintia Hills on Tuesday had unanimously recommended the name of RL Tariang as official nominee to contest the upcoming election from 7-Amlarem constituency.
